Led by Gene Paul Lascano, a USPTA Elite and PTR Professional with over 25 years of experience, and Maja Oernberg, a former WTA-ranked player and NCAA standout, our instructors bring world-class training to every lesson. Director of Racquets

Gene Paul Lascano, USPTA/PTR

Gene Paul has more than 25 years of teaching experience at clubs and resorts in New York and Florida. He has been an active PTR Professional for 20 years and a USPTA Elite Professional for the past 16 years. The former “Tennis Network of Greater Volusia County Teaching Pro of the Year” is also one of the few 5-year Charter Members of PPR and is a certified Pickleball Professional with the USPTA. He is also a long-standing member of the HEAD/Penn Advisory Staff.

Maja Oernberg

Maja Oernberg, Head Racquets Professional, hails from Stockholm, Sweden, and earned a WTA ranking before joining Florida Gulf Coast University in 2016. Playing five years in the No. 1 singles spot, she was named both Freshman Player of the Year and Player of the Year. After college, she coached the FGCU Women’s Tennis Team, taught at Westchester Country Club, and served as Assistant Tennis Professional at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, bringing top-level experience and passion to every lesson.

Don Groundwater, PTR

Don Groundwater, Assistant Tennis Professional, brings 14 years of teaching experience in Florida to Hammock Beach. A certified PTR instructor since 2010, Don previously served as Head Tennis Professional at the Palm Coast Tennis Center. His dedication to player development and passion for the game make him a valuable asset to the resort’s racquets program, where he works with players of all skill levels to help them improve their game and enjoy a top-tier tennis experience.
